CHARACTER STUFF
Name: Mirai Kuriyama
Aliases: None currently, but I'd be interested to see someone name her vigilante persona
Canon: Kyoukai no Kanata
Role: vigilante
Species: Human
Gender: Female
Age: 16
Appearance:
Mirai is incredibly short at an even five feet tall. She has strawberry blonde hair that she wears in a bob with heavy bangs, and honey brown eyes.

Typically Mirai wears a large pink cardigan to cover up her perpetually bandaged wrist and lower palm; for ease of use where her powers are concerned she keeps a small round wound open at the base of her palm at all times. In a similar vein she wears a gold colored ring on her right pinky to suppress the secondary nature of her ability. Mirai is nearsighted, and wears red glasses.
As a vigilante she wears a long hooded red coat, black shorts over black tights, a long-sleeved black shirt and black boots. She doesn't wear a mask but she wear different glasses (dark grey) and keep her hood up.
Origin story:
Mirai was born into a long line of supervillains, it seemed to run in their blood as much as the power to control blood did. Her father was a villain as was her grandmother before him and her great-grandfather before that, and they probably expected Mirai to one day grow up to be a villain as well. She very well might had she not lost her mother and grandmother before they age of five and her father not been captured and sentenced to life in prison only months later.
With no other relatives to take care of her Mirai was taken in by the Inami, a family with a long history of producing superhumans who went on to become heroes (either biologically or through adoption.) Though they wrapped there reasoning for taking her in, in kindness and generosity, there was also an element of challenge to it; they wanted the bragging rights of saying they'd tamed the last of the Kuriyama. Whatever thier intentions though they were in luck: all Mirai wanted was to prove she wasn't her family. If she could become a superhero, she thought, than maybe she could prove to everyone she was more than her blood. The Inami taught her to supress the parts of her power she couldn't control, gave her a roof over her head but never really cared for her perhapes as much as caretakers should have. The exception to that was Yui Inami who was the same age as Mirai. Yui had similar dreams of becoming a hero and they quickly formed a bond. They made a pact to train their powers together and eventually become heroes side by side. She may have been the only member of the Inami family who truly loved Mirai.
As the years passed they never forgot their promise, but just a year shy of being eligible to apply for the Trailblazers disaster struck. While walking home they were attacked by a being that Mirai would later learn was known as the Hollow Shadow. A powerful, formless entity. The pair tried to fight back but the Shadow overpowered Yui and possessed her, forcing her to attack Mirai. Mirai did everything she could to subdue Yui without hurting her, but thanks to years of training together Yui knew Mirai's powers and techniques better than anyone. In the end Mirai had no choice but to kill her best friend to save her own life, and to add insult to injury the Hollow Shadow escaped in the chaos.
While video footage confirmed Mirai's story, and the authorities ruled it justifiable homicide, the Inami family didn't care. As far as they were concerned Mirai had murdered one of their's, and they'd been fools to think Mirai could ever be anything but a villain. Mirai was devastated, but worse she believed them. Whatever dreams Mirai once had about becoming a superhero she threw away, but to not go on would mean Yui had died for nothing, and so Mirai made a vow. She would find the Hollow Shadow and she would kill it. She would avenge her friend even if it meant giving up her life.
With no one to turn to in the wake of the Inami throwing her out, Mirai decided she would be better off living alone and supporting herself.
Personality:
Mirai is not very good around people. She's always been somewhat shy and awkward, but the events surrounding Yui's death have only worsened these tendencies. Mirai does her best to avoid forming bonds with people even if the truth is she doesn't want to be alone. She feels as if she isn't allowed to enjoy life because of what she did to Yui. Her perpetual feelings of awkwardness tend to lead her distraction, and as a result she's incredibly clumsy in everyday life. She's the type of person that one wouldn't be surprised to trip over air, which makes her competency in combat all the more surprising.
Despite her her best efforts not to care, Mirai feels things very deeply (as evidenced by the crippling guilt she carries over Yui, even though there was nothing else she could have done.) She is forgiving to those who she thinks deserve it, but in general stubborn, and easily agitated. She doesn't like to accept help but has trouble directly refusing things like food or money when they're offered. Her words and actions will often be at odds if what she really wants is different from what she's resolved to do. Mirai is also a terrible liar and always starts vigorously cleaning her glasses when she lies.
After what happened with Yui Mirai's realized she'd rather die than sacrifice a friend to save herself. If she was ever put in a similar situation again she'd make a different choice. No matter how much guilt Mirai feels though she also feels that to sacrifice her life needlessly would be an insult to Yui's memory; she wants to make sure her friend died for something even if it's just that Mirai can live long enough to avenge her.
Her hobby is bonsai, and she's almost unreasonably invested in it. She even runs a bonsai blog, though it;s not exactly a source of pleasure since she somehow manages to attract alot of anon hate. She has an incredibly large appetite, at least partially as a side effect of her ability, and favors foods that are high in iron like meat.
Differences from canon:
In canon Mirai is the last surviving member of a "cursed" clan of spirit world warriors, but her family isn't actually evil. The nature of their powers is seem as morally questionable, and Mirai asserts that it was also the fact that they were too powerful that made other spirit world hate them.
One of the biggest struggles Mirai has to overcome in canon is her inability to kill after the events with Yui and the Hollow Shadow, this is a problem because it's the job of spirit world warriors to protect humanity by killing demons called youmu. Anytime Mirai would attempt to deliver a killing blow to a youmu she would flash back to the incident with Yui and freeze up. Due to the fact that killing is something that would be actively discouraged in this setting to begin with I decided to convert this inability to kill into an unwillingness to register and become a proper superhero. As a result of her actions she feels she does not deserve the kind of positive recognition for whatever kind of heroing she does and so instead became a vigilante. It feels more fitting to her to be working outside the law when she already sees herself as murderer. She'll probably still have moments where she freezes up if she's reminded too strongly of Yui though.
I aged Mirai up a year so she'd have the option of registering as a superhero if she wanted to, it makes her storyline more coherent.
As a final note I'm basically playing Mirai as she is just before the events of the anime begin.
Power level: C, borderline B when she removes her ring.
Powers:
Mirai possesses hemokinesis or the power to manipulate her own blood (which in and of itself seems to be unique.)
Mirai is able to form solid constructs from her blood. Her construct of choice is a long blade most closely resembling a kopis the size of a broad sword. She has superb control of this ability partially thanks to years of practice, and partially thanks to a ring that she uses to suppress the secondary acidic nature of her blood. When not wearing the ring Mirai is able to use her blood as a highly corrosive acid, capable of burning through flesh. However she currently has less control over her blood when it's in this state. Her ability is limited by how much blood she has in her body, and if she uses too much she will suffer anemia like side effects, or pass out in more extreme cases.
In terms of mundane abilities Miria has impressive stamina (though this can be limited or hindered by side effects of using her power,) is considerably skilled in gymnastics and parkour. Her movements in battle display considerable fighting knowledge. These skills were all obtained thanks to years of training.
